A woman was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after her car hit a pickup truck on slushy roads in Pleasant Ridge Plantation.

Deanna Robinson, 20, of Pleasant Ridge, was driving south on Ridge Road at about 7:45 a.m. when she lost control of her 2001 Volkswagen Passat and collided with an approaching pickup truck, said Dale Lancaster, chief deputy of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Matthew Kennedy, 26, also of Pleasant Ridge, driving the truck, a 2006 GMC with a plow on the front, attempted to swerve to the right to avoid a collision, but hit the guard rail. Robinson’s car hit the driver’s side of the truck.

Lancaster said road conditions after Wednesday’s snow were a factor in the accident, but said Robinson also appeared to be driving too fast when she approached a bend in the road and crossed the center line.

Her car was destroyed. The pickup truck had extensive damage to the left front, Lancaster said.

Lancaster said Robinson’s airbag deployed and may have contributed to her complaints of head and neck pain. She was taken by Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service of Bingham to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.

Lancaster said Robinson, Kennedy and Kennedy’s passenger, Haylie Atwood, 24, of Pleasant Ridge, all were wearing seat belts. No one else was injured.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case, Lancaster said.
