Driver charged with OUI after pickup hits rail
WINDSOR — A Sidney man is facing charges after reportedly hitting a guardrail with his pickup truck and then continuing to drive on three wheels.
Patrick Bealieu, 23, was charged with operating under the influence, said Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon, of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. Monday as Beaulieu drove his 2001 Chevrolet 1500 pickup on Route 17, also known as Augusta/Rockland Road. The pickup left the road and hit the end of a guardrail, Reardon said. The impact tore off one of the truck’s wheels, but Beaulieu continued to drive the truck on the three remaining wheels for about a mile.
Beaulieu, who suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where a blood sample was drawn, Reardon said.
“He showed signs of intoxication,” Reardon said.
He said other charges are possible.
