AUGUSTA — Inclement weather postponed two Eastern A boys quarterfinal games Saturday night, the Maine Principals’ Association announced.

No. 4 Messalonskee and No. 5 Edward Little was moved to 8:30 a.m., Monday while top-seeded Hampden will play No. 8 Lewiston at 1 p.m.

“It was a difficult decision but it was done for safety reasons,” Augusta tournament director Doran Stout said. “There were some transportation concerns.”

Stout added the games were fitted into open time slots Monday so as not to interfere with the other originally scheduled games.

The Western D girls and Western C boys quarterfinals are also Monday.

“Our games Saturday weren’t going to get over until after 11,” Stout said, “and the conditions were going to be horrible at that time.”

Stout added it “wasn’t the most ideal situation, but what can you do. Safety comes first.”

At the Portland Expo, the two late Saturday games in the Western Class A boys basketball tournament were also moved to Monday. Bonny Eagle will play Sanford at 10 a.m., and Falmouth plays Cheverus at 11:30 a.m.
