The downtown Augusta law firm Lipman & Katz P.A. recently promoted two of its attorneys to management roles for the firm.

The attorneys, Karen E. Boston and Melissa Reynolds O’Dea, will co-manage the firm and be responsible for marketing, human resources, business management and the coordination of its attorneys and other staff, according to a release from the company.

Sumner H. Lipman, the founding partner of Lipman & Katz and former managing partner, worked with Boston and O’Dea over the past year to prepare them to take over the daily management of the firm, the release said. Lipman will eventually retire, but until then, he will continue to practice law and act as an advisor to Boston and O’Dea.

“I am proud to have two such bright and experienced attorneys with whom to entrust my life’s work,” Lipman said in the release. “I’m sure that they will lead the firm with integrity for many years to come.”

Firm partner Roger J. Katz, also a state senator, said in the release he’s looking forward to working more closely with Boston and O’Dea.

“They have proved to be valuable assets and are both extremely capable lawyers. I have no doubt that they will apply the same diligence to their management roles as they do to their client work,” Katz said.

Boston has nearly 17 years of experience and practices family law, criminal law, personal injury and medical negligence. She has served as a past chair of the Maine State Bar Association’s Family Law Section.

O’Dea, a former Maine assistant attorney general, was a partner at O’Dea Woodman in Augusta before joining Lipman & Katz.
