BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore midfielder and Messalonskee graduate Mara Balboni scored a school record eight goals to lead the University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team to a 15-12 win over Wheelock College on Sunday. Balboni’s eight scores eclipses the previous UMaine-Farmington (2-1) single game record of six goals, recorded six times and last achieved by sophomore Ayla Allen on April 13, 2013, against Thomas College.

Jaclyn Langevin added three goals for the Beavers while Ayla Allen scored two and Maddi Kadnar and Haley Binette one apiece. UMF goalie Hannah Goodenow recorded 11 saves while Meghan Lewis had 26 for Wheelock (0-3).

SOFTBALL

MAINE 12, HARTFORD 9: Rachel Harvey and Skowhegan graduate Shelby Obert each had a pair of hits and drove in four runs to lead the Black Bears to the America East Conference win in West Hartford, Conn. Kylie Sparks picked up the pitching win in relief of Hannah Hill. Maine is 10-9 overall and 2-1 in America East while Hartford falls to 5-13, 1-2.

BASEBALL

UMBC 7, MAINE 6, 12 inn.: The Retrievers scored with two out in the bottom of the 12th to pull out the America East Conference win in Baltimore, Md. Brian Doran led Maine with two doubles and a single while teammate Scott Heath singled twice and doubled. Maine is 8-16 overall and 1-2 in America East play.

COLBY 8-10, BARD 1-1: Jason Buco homered in both games and the Mules (2-0) drew strong starting pitching from Scott Goldberg and Greg Ladd in a doubleheader sweep of Bard College on Sunday in Auburndale, Fla.

Buco had a solo homer, singled, and was hit by a pitch in the opener and smacked a two-run homer, walked twice, and had two stolen bases in the nightcap. Goldberg pitched the first game and allowed just two hits over six innings while striking out 10 and walking two. Ladd pitched a complete game in the second contest, keeping Bard (3-4) at bay with four strikeouts and no walks.
