Police are looking for a vehicle that hit a Litchfield woman as she walked on Route 197 Sunday evening, leaving only a mirror in its wake.

Amber Lynn Reed, 23, of Litchfield, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries, said Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Reardon said the vehicle that hit Reed did not stop. Based on a mirror found at the crash scene, investigators believe the vehicle is a Ford, but it’s not clear if it was a car, SUV or truck.

Investigators continued to search for the vehicle Monday morning.

Reed told investigators she was on Route 197 around 11 p.m. Sunday night. Reed, who said she was walking on the outside edge of the road, recalls looking down at her cell phone and then waking up in pain, Reardon said.

“She has no recollection of being struck,” Reardon said.

A passerby found Reed lying in the road.

Reardon asked anyone with information about the crash to call Deputy William Johnson at 623-3614
