Addendum: The indictments against Nicholas R. Williams and Tiffany M. Merrill-Williams were dismissed Oct. 14, 2014.

AUGUSTA — Two people accused of holding up an Augusta man inside his home are among the dozens of people indicted Friday in Kennebec County Superior Court.

Nicholas R. Williams, 32, and Tiffany M. Merrill-Williams, 28, both of Augusta, were each indicted on one count of robbery in connection with a March 12 holdup inside a Leighton Road home.

Williams was charged shortly after the incident last month. Merrill-Williams had not been charged at the time she was indicted.

A Kennebec County grand jury handed up the indictments on Friday.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.

An affidavit by Augusta Police Officer Paul Doody says Williams and the homeowner were acquainted and that Williams came into the house, leaving a woman with a broken leg — apparently Tiffany Merrill-Williams — sitting in a truck outside.

The victim said Nicholas Williams “pulled a black handgun with a very short barrel out of his waistband and told (the victim), ‘Give me you money or I will kill you,'” Doody wrote in the affidavit.

The homeowner told Williams he had no money and “to go ahead and kill” him, according to the affidavit.

The homeowner told police Williams struck him on the head with the gun, kicked him in the face and upper body as he lay on the floor and rifled his pockets before fleeing with $200 he found there.

Doody said the homeowner grabbed a knife and attempted to follow Williams, but was too dazed by the assault.

Doody said that when Williams left in the truck, another man who had been at the victim’s home and saw what happened got in his pickup and followed Williams as he drove toward Civic Center Drive and stopped at a house on Old Belgrade Road.

According to superior court records, Nicholas Williams previously was sentenced to six years in jail, with all but nine months suspended, and six years’ probation for a robbery in Portland.
