LEWISTON —There will either be a hockey game or a circus at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston on Saturday night, but exactly which has yet to be determined.

The Kora Shrine Circus is booked to perform at the arena at 7 p.m. Saturday. The AHL’s Portland Pirates are scheduled to play at the same time.

Neither organization is backing down.

Shriner Al Milburn, the Lewiston facilities coordinator for the charitable group’s circus performance, tells the Sun Journal their contract was signed three years ago and supersedes the Pirates’ deal.

The Pirates reached a deal to play in the arena last September.

Pirates’ management had no comment, but referred to a press release announcing the time of the game.

The arena’s owner would only say he’s “working on a solution.”
