FARMINGTON — Mandi Currier hit a two-out double to the gap in left-center with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Caitlin Kane with the running run as the Mt. Blue softball team edged Brewer 5-4 in a wild Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Friday afternoon.

Brewer (0-1) pulled ahead 4-2 with two runs in the top of the ninth before Kane pulled the Cougars (1-1) even with a two-run single in the bottom of the inning.

All of Mt. Blue’s runs in the ninth inning came with two outs.

Mt. Blue out-hit Brewer 9-6 on the day. Last year, Brewer was 15-1 in the regular season, while Mt. Blue was 1-15.

Lawrence 9, Brunswick 5: Paige Belanger had two triples and a single as the Bulldogs rallied in the late innings to defeat the Dragons in Brunswick.

Lawrence (1-0) trailed 4-2 after five innings, but scored five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Belanger finished with two RBIs and three runs scored. Aurdi Fortier singled twice and drove in a pair of runs, and Molly Moen also had two hits. Winning pitcher Julia Lawrence allowed six hits and struck out six.

Ashley Howe singled twice for Brunswick (0-1).

Skowhegan 14, Edward Little 0: Andrea Quirion went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and six RBIs as Skowhegan rolled to the KVAC A victory in Auburn.

Kaitlyn Theriault struck out five to earn the victory for the Indians, who scored seven runs in the first and fourht innings.

Skowhegan (2-0) also banged out four doubles.

Edward Little dropped to 0-1.

Messalonskee 14, Lewiston 0: Kylee Knight and Kirsten Pelletier each had three hits in a six-inning win for the Eagles (1-0) in Lewsiton. Sophie Holmes, Sierra McLellan and Cassidy Baker chipped in with two singles each, while Kassi Michaud and Pelletier combined for the shutout in the circle.

Madison 6, Hall-Dale 2: Emily McKenney pitched a three-hitter and had three hits herself as Madison won the battle of the Bulldogs in Farmingdale.

McKenney struck out 10 and walked three. At the plate, she singled twice and doubled. Kirsten Wood and Aly LeBlanc added to the Madison attack with two singles apiece. Madison is 1-0.

Hall-Dale (1-1) scored twice in the first inning for a 2-1 lead. Olivia Maynard drove in one of the runs.

Nokomis 30, Mt. View 0: The Warriors banged out 19 hits in a victory over the Mustangs in Newport.

Libby Dunivan (double, three singles) and Becky Orcutt (home run, two doubles, single) each had four hits for Nokomis. Mikayla Charters and Courtney Carlson added three hits apiece. Orcutt started in the circle and struck out six in four innings. She and Dunivan combined on a two-hitter.

Krysta Porter and Taylor Shunk each singled for Mt. View (0-2).

Baseball

Waterville 12, MCI 0, (5 inn): Alan Wood had two singles and drove in a pair of runs to support a strong performance from pitcher Kaleb Kane as the Panthers cruised in Waterville.

Kane struck out five and allowed just one hit. Cam Gardiner had a triple and Danny Pooler doubled to lead Waterville (1-1).

Austin Tolman struck out three for MCI (0-2).

Messalonskee 7, Lewiston 2: Devin Warren had a triple, two singles and four RBIs as the Eagles sank the Blue Devils in a KVAC A game in Lewiston.

Ben Frazee struck out six and walked two before being relieved by Josh Casey in the fourth for Messalonskee (1-0).

Lewiston dropped to 1-1.

Brunswick 4, Lawrence 3: After a back-and-forth first two innings, Brunswick took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Cody Martin was saddled with the loss for the Bulldogs despite allowing just two hits and striking out six to go along with four walks in four innings pitched. Alex Chensley had one hit and a pair of RBIs for Lawrence, while Matt Champion had a hit and two runs scored.

Skowhegan 6, Edward Little 4: Senior Adam Clukey had a single, double and an RBI as Skowhegan (1-1) held off a late rally from Edward Little (0-1) for the victory Friday at Pettengill Park in Auburn. Senior Chase Nelson went the distance on the mound for the Indiands, striking out seven and walking two batters.

Nokomis 11, Mt. View 1: The Warriors plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth to put away Mt. View in five innings Friday. Andrew Dyer got the win for Nokomis by allowing one unearned run off four hits while striking out five in five innings pitched, while Zach Ramsdell, Aaron Smestad, Connor Allen, Raymond Girroir and Dyer scored two runs each. Mikey Hustus — who scored the lone run for the Mustangs — Jack Axsom and Joey Danna had one hit each.

College

Baseball

BATES 5, COLBY 0: Griff Tewksbury went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Rockwell Jackson had a pair of hits as Bates blanked the Mules in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game at Leahey Field in Lewiston.

Dan Csaplar had two hits for the Mules (14-10, 4-6 in NESCAC). Soren Hanson and Nate Ellis had the other two hits for the Mules.

Bates improved to 17-11, 5-3.
