READFIELD — Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Maranacook Community High School’s offense came to life with its backs against the proverbial wall to score an improbable 4-3 walk-off victory on Monday over Medomak Valley.

“This team is never out of it,” Maranacook coach Eric Brown said. “They have a lot of resolve.”

Jason Brooks led off the inning by reaching on an error and — after stealing second — Kodey Solmitz dropped down a sacrifice bunt to push Brooks into scoring position.

The Maranacook sophomore came around moments later on a Vinnie Birtwell RBI single, and Nick Lacasse then drew a four-pitch walk to put the winning run on first.

Both runners advanced on a pass ball, and Max McQuillen followed by perfectly executing a sacrifice squeeze. Birtwell scored on the play, Lacasse advanced to third and McQuillen beat out the throw to first from pitcher Riley McCollett.

Medomak elected to intentionally walk Cam Brochu to load the bases, but couldn’t get the out it was looking for. Matt Delmar sharply grounded one to third that was misplayed, which allowed Lacasse to score the game-winning run from third.
