AUBURN — The Messalonskee softball team used a five-run fifth inning to pull away from Edward Little 7-2 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Wednesday afternoon.

The victory helped the Eagles (9-4) keep pace with the other frontrunners in the conference.

Kristy Prelgovisk had a double and a single for Messalonskee, while Taylor Easler plated two runs in the fifth with a single. Winning pitcher Kassi Michaud struck out nine and walked none.

MADISON 12, CARRABEC 6: Emily McKenney struck out 12 as the Bulldogs defeated the Cobras in Mountain Valley Conference action in Madison.

Kirsten Wood, Kayla Bess, Cristie Vicneire, and Alex Jarvais all had two hits for Madison (14-1). Bess and Aly LeBlanc scored three runs apiece.

For Carrabec (5-8), Jessica Vaillancourt singled twice and Brooklynne Lewis drove in three runs.

ERSKINE 5, MORSE 4: The Eagles (4-9) scored one run in the bottom of the sixth and held off the Shipbuilders (3-11) in the top of the seventh to secure the KVAC Class B win in South China.

Taylor Boucher led Erskine with two triples and two singles, while Mallory Chamberlain improved to 4-8 in the circle with the win. Hope Faulkingham paced Morse with three hits.

RICHMOND 8, RANGELY 0: The Bobcats (10-0) remained undefeated with an East-West win over the Lakers (3-7) in Rangely.

Meranda Martin struck out seven and walked none in picking up her 10th win of the season, while Camryn Hurley led the offense with three singles. Kelsey Obi, Cassidy Harriman and Martin chipped in with two singles.

Rangely pitcher Taylor Esty struck out six in the loss.

MARANACOOK 9, Mt. VIEW 6: Autumn Munn had a two-run double and a single to lead the Black Bears to the KVAC win in Thorndike. Sam Tlumac and Amber Ridlon added two singles apiece for Maranacook (6-7) while Lindsay Jackson belted a three-run triple. Taylor Shunk paced Mt. View (2-13) with a double and two singles while teammate Emily English singled twice.

BASEBALL

ERSKINE 3, MORSE 2: Tyler Bailey hit an RBI walk-off single to cap an Erskine rally and lift the Eagles to the KVAC Class B win in South China.

The Eagles tied the game at two with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Rodrigue opened the scoring when he doubled and came home on Nate Martin’s single and Martin later scored on a fielder’s choice by Michael Cayouette, beating the throw to home. Rodrigue led Erskine with a single and double. Morse is 9-4, Erskine is 6-7.

MESSALONSKEE 8, EDWARD LITTLE 3: Jake Dexter homered and singled twice to lead the Eagles to the KVAC A win in Auburn. Devin Warren added two singles and a double for Messalonskee (10-3) while Zach Mathieu singled twice. Connor Garland picked up the win in relief of Ben Frazee. Mike Hammond homered and singled for Edward Little (6-7) while Drew Lashua added two singles.

CARRABEC 6, MADISON 5: After giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, Cobra starting pitcher Levi Murray recorded two straight outs with runners on second and third to lift Carrabec in North Anson.

Murray walked three and struck out five in the win, Will Crawford was 1-for-4 with three runs scored and Tyler Reichert went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jack Money struck out five and gave up four hits in 6 2/3 innings for Madison, while Briar Edgerly went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Cobras improved to 7-6, while Madison fell to 5-10.
