CANAAN — Police are seeking the driver of a vehicle that hit a runner on Hill Road and drove off.

The woman had just left her driveway at around 5:15 a.m. Monday and was wearing a fluorescent yellow vest when a white SUV driving south struck her from behind, according to a news release from Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said they believe the SUV may have been a Ford.

The SUV hit the woman, whose name wasn’t released, in the arm with enough force to break off the side-view mirror on the passenger side of the vehicle, Lancaster said.

An ambulance crew treated the woman at the scene.
