Augusta’s Quality Inn & Suites Maine Evergreen Hotel is the winner of Choice Hotels International’s Hotel of the Year award. The hotel won the distinction out of a field of 1,041 Quality brand hotels across the United States, according to a press release. Choice Hotels International is franchisor of the Quality brand.

The Augusta hotel, on Whitten Road, received the top award for its brand at the Choice Hotels 75th Anniversary National Convention in Las Vegas this month.

“This is a really incredible achievement — an amazing testimony to the daily efforts of our staff, and something special for Maine’s capital to celebrate,” said Alec Rogers, who owns the hotel with his wife, Julie, in a press release. “We are incredibly blessed with a team of devoted women and men who have a passion for excellence — this award belongs to everyone here.”

The Rogers live in Manchester and the Whitten Road property has been in Julie’s family since her parents, Bill and Nanna Ingham, built the original hotel on the site in the early 1970s as a Susse Chalet. The motel was since expanded and renovated and in 2007 became Quality Inn & Suites Maine Evergreen Hotel, an eco-friendly hotel featuring health-conscious amenities and “authentic, caring guest service for value-conscious travelers,” according to the release.

The hotel has won a number of awards from Choice Hotels International and from the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce and has received national recognition for green lodging initiatives in USAToday, the release said.

In 2013 the Quality Inn & Suites Maine Evergreen Hotel was ranked top in the brand for several months running and has achieved platinum status from Choice Hotels for the last four years. According to the Choice Hotels Guest Insight Surveys conducted regularly with hotel guests, Augusta’s hotel is rated 9.3 out of 10 for likelihood to recommend; 9.48 out of 10 for staff service; and a nearly perfect overall score for Quality Assurance Brand Standards.
