A Clinton man has been arrested on charges of possessing pornographic images of young children.

Robert Lewis, 65, who lives at 15 Diamond Ave., was arrested Friday on a charge of possession of sexually explicit material depicting a minor.

Lewis was being held Saturday at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Day wrote in court documents that Lewis was arrested after a forensic examination of his computer uncovered explicit photos of children that investigators believe range in age from 4 to 16.

Lewis’ mobile home in a trailer park is less than three-tenths of a mile from Clinton Elementary School, according to a MapQuest search.

Day arrested Lewis while investigating another complaint against him. He is not been charged in connection with those allegations, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff’s deputies seized Lewis’ computer tower from his home last year, Day wrote. Special Agent Scott Corey of the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit began examination of the computer in September.

“His observations suggested the ages of the subjects in the images ranged from the ages 4 to 16 years,” Day wrote. “My impression of the images concur with those of Special Agent Corey.”
