A 65-year-old Detroit man escaped serious injury Tuesday when his car ran off the shoulder of Interstate 95 near Benton and rolled over after he fell asleep at the wheel.

The accident forced the closing of one lane of the southbound side of I-95 shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

State Trooper Joe Chretein said Jeffrey Hooker said he had been working long shifts and apparently nodded off while driving. Hooker attempted corrective action, but the car rolled over. He was not hurt.

The car rolled over near mile marker 134.
