The Corinna town manager was killed in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Moscow Sunday afternoon, after the ATV she was riding struck a tree, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Kimberly Godsoe, 37, of Hartland, was riding in a group of five ATVs and was hanging back because she wanted to avoid dust, said Lt. Kevin Adam of the Maine Warden Service.

At around 12:30 p.m. the group turned around when they realized she was no longer behind them and found her severely injured, he said.

She was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The ATV hit a tree but the cause of the accident is under investigation, said Adam.

“All we know is she went off the trail and struck a tree. We are still trying to determine why,” he said.

Godsoe has served as the town manager in the Penobscot County town of Corinna since 2011. She also worked as an administrative assistant from 2008 to 2011 in St. Albans and has worked in the Hartland town office.

“She was a wonderful young lady,” said Rhonda Stark, town manager in St. Albans. “I was very proud of her and I know she would have gone a long way. She had a very nice career in front of her.”

A graduate of Dexter High School, Godsoe attended Beal College and enjoyed camping, hunting, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.

Her survivors include her husband, three children and her parents. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday at the Hartland Consolidated School on Elm Streetin Hartland.

A woman who answered the phone at the Corinna town office Monday said she had no comment.

The Bingham Fire Department and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service also responded.
