Firefighters from four towns raced to the scene Sunday afternoon when a Benton homeowner called 911 to report that his shed had caught fire.

Derek Shaw, of Bangor Road in Benton, told emergency responders from three departments that he recently had put the lawnmower in the shed after mowing the lawn, according to Capt. Mike Murphy of the Fairfield-Benton Fire Rescue department.

“He went inside and heard something. When he came out, he saw the shed was on fire,” Murphy said.

No one was hurt in the blaze and no charges are expected, Murphy said. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

The fire began about 1:30 p.m., and responders from Waterville, Clinton, Benton and Fairfield were at the scene for about an hour.

The shed and the lawnmower were severely damaged.
