Police: Teen drove 74 in 50-mph zone

FARMINGTON — A Gray teenager was arrested Sunday on charges of driving 74 mph in a 40-mph zone while uninsured, according to Farmington police.

At 1:40 p.m., Officer Darin Gilbert recorded a car driving 34 mph over the speed limit on Wilton Road, said Rachel Heseltine, secretary for the Farmington Police Department. She said Gilbert was working a shift paid by a grant to enforce speed laws and was scanning traffic while parked at Hight Chevrolet.

When he pulled over the driver, 19-year-old Ethan Burns, Gilbert allegedly also found drug paraphernalia, and Burns could not provide proof of insurance.

Burns was arrested on the class E misdemeanor charge of driving 30 mph over the speed limit and was summoned on the civil charges of failing to provide proof of insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
