WATERVILLE — The Taste of Waterville will revisit its roots on Wednesday, Aug 6, when it returns a portion of the annual event to its original format again this August.

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, which coordinates the Taste of Waterville, recently announced tickets are now available for the portion of the event that organizers are calling “The Sit-Down,” referring to the four-course elegant dining option planned for its attendees.

Heritage House Restaurant of Skowhegan and T&B’s Celebration Centers of Waterville and Skowhegan are currently confirmed to participate. Their featured menus for the evening of the Taste, along with ticket information, are available at tasteofwaterville.com.

The Taste has been held in downtown Waterville each year since its inception in 1992. In its early years, tables lined Main Street and participating restaurants served full evening meals to ticket holders. In recent years, the Taste has grown into mid-Maine’s largest outdoor festival, becoming a day-long family event which features a variety of entertainers and vendors with free admission.

The decision to add the more formal character of the Taste’s early years back into the event was made last year by the Mid-Maine Chamber’s committee responsible for planning the Taste, which is headed up again this year by downtown business owner Jeff Corey of Day’s Jewelers. Corey helped launch the event in 1992.

“The Taste will be the best of both worlds once again,” Corey said. “By adding a third food venue to the event again this year, we are planning an event that truly has something for everyone.”

Christian Savage, of the Mid-Maine Chamber, said the organization’s goal in organizing the Taste is to highlight the area and its businesses.

“Each year, the Taste brings throngs of locals and tourists alike to downtown Waterville,” Savage said. “We want to showcase our area, along with its businesses and organizations, and this event is one way the Chamber is able to do so on such a large scale.”
