GARDINER — City firefighters stopped an early-morning fire in a West Street garage before it spread to nearby homes, the department said Friday.

Gardiner Fire Chief Daniel Guimond said in a news release that crews responded to a fully involved two-bay garage at 6 West St. at 3 a.m. on Friday. The fire was stopped, with firefighters protecting nearby buildings and a vehicle in the driveway ahead of the garage, Guimond said.

The home is owned by Sandra Lennon, according to city assessment records. The fire’s cause is under investigation, but Guimond said it doesn’t appear suspicious.
