WATERVILLE — A woman crashed her car into a tree outside CVS on Cool Street after apparently over-accelerating at a stop sign and failing to turn.

Juliette Poirier, 81, of Waterville, was not injured although there was damage to her vehicle, a 2006 Cadillac, said Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey.

Poirier was driving east on Merryfield Avenue and came to a stop at the intersection with Cool Street at around 2 p.m. Friday, he said. She intended to turn right on to Cool Street but instead crossed the road and headed into a tree outside CVS, he said.

“I guess the best way to describe it is that she over-accelerated and didn’t turn in time,” said Massey.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.

Chris Tredeau and his daughter Mandolin, who live on nearby Sawtelle Street, were outside watching a helicopter fly by when they heard the crash.

“It was a loud ‘boom,'” said Chris Tredeau. “We went over and asked if she was okay and all she said was she couldn’t stop.”
