MONMOUTH — Police are seeking the driver of a black pickup truck who allegedly left the scene of an accident Friday evening on U.S. Route 202 in which a local man was injured.

A 2002 Pontiac Sunfire operated by Stephen Kunze, 26, of Monmouth, was westbound on U.S. Route 202 when, while trying to turn left onto Annabessacook Road, it was struck by an eastbound black pickup truck, according to Officer Richard Alexander.

Alexander said the truck left after the accident, headed west on U.S. 202. Anyone who may have information on the accident or the whereabouts of the truck, which he said probably sustained front-end damage, may call Monmouth police at 933-9089.

Kunze was taken by Winthrop Ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. A hospital representative said on Saturday that Kunze was not in the hospital then but might have been treated and released previously.

Another eastbound vehicle, according to Alexander, also struck Kunze’s car, nearly struck a building at Phil’s Variety, and also was damaged in the accident, which was reported around 5:30 p.m.
