Speed and alcohol were likely factors in a motorcycle crash in Winslow that killed a Winslow man Friday, police said.
Thomas Marceau, 27, was pronounced dead at Inland Hospital in Waterville, where he was taken after the crash on Augusta Road, according to a news release from Winslow police Officer Ron McGowen.
Winslow police responded at 4:03 p.m. Friday to a report of a crash on the road, which is U.S. Route 201, involving serious injury. The crash occurred between Expert Auto Glass and Verti Drive, which is near Sukee Arena.
McGowen said in the release that the accident is still under investigation but “speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.” The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 mph.
McGowen said Marceau was wearing a helmet and that several people saw the crash. He would not say why police believe speed and alcohol may be factors, or how fast the motorcycle might have been traveling.
Officer Brandon Lund is the lead investigator on the case, McGowen said.
