Replacement of the copper sheath of Maine’s State House dome is well underway, long past its intended 75-year lifespan when it was installed in 1909-10. When completed, the dome will appear the same as the current one (copper) for 35 years until it oxidizes to a green once again. The statue of Minerva (Goddess of Wisdom) will be regilded. The cost of the project is $1.2 million out of the Legislative Council account.
