Rep. Karen Kusiak, D-Fairfield (District 108), brings expertise, effective leadership and compassion to the Legislature. Among the first to stand up for measures that strengthen Maine’s system of public education, Karen has earned her reputation as an education leader in the House.

Karen holds a doctorate in education and has worn many hats as a classroom teacher, special education administrator and teacher educator. With this background, I can trust that her take on an issue is well-founded in both experience and knowledge.

As a thoughtful advocate for higher education, and former member of the School Administrative District 49 board of directors, Karen has pushed for improvements in both K-12 and post-secondary education as well as taxpayer equity in school funding.

Karen has pushed for legislation to fairly assess teachers and schools, improve opportunity for student academic achievement, decrease dropout rates, increase fiscal responsibility for charter school funding, and maintain effective school programs.
