An Augusta woman whose body was found along the Kennebec River in Pittston over the weekend died of accidental drowning, according to police.

The body of 45-year-old Vicky Trask was found shortly before noon Saturday about 200 yards south of Smithtown Marina & Campground, said Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. An autopsy conducted by the state medical examiner over the weekend determined that Trask died of accidental drowning, Reardon said.

Investigators continue to look into the circumstances of Trask’s death, Reardon said.

“There’s nothing that has raised our suspicion at this time,” he said.

Trask was last seen alive by her husband around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Reardon said. A boater discovered her body less than 12 hours later on the same side of the river as the marina.

Investigators are still trying determine how Trask ended up in the river. Reardon said alcohol appears to have been a factor.

“It appears it was a very unfortunate accident,” he said.
