GARDINER — Gardiner Adult Education will host a book talk given by Maine State Historian Earle Shettleworth Jr. for his book, “The Blaine House.” The event is set for 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Gardiner Area High School. Shettleworth will present an informative and entertaining look at the governor’s mansion.

Newly released by Arcadia Publishing, “The Blaine House” is a pictorial history of one of Maine’s most important buildings. Using old photographs, Shettleworth tells stories of Maine’s first families and famous guests. This is the first in Arcadia’s Images of America series featuring the nations’ governor’s mansions.

Shettleworth has served as the director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission since 1976 and as Maine’s state historian since 2004. He has coauthored or authored eight other Arcadia publications. Join him to learn more about the experience of creating the book and about the history of this notable home.

Books will be available for sale and signing. Proceeds from sale of the book go to Friends of the Blaine House for maintenance and improvements to the house and grounds. The book event is free of charge.
