Greetings fellow Mainers. Last night, while watching television, I noticed something about the increasingly frequent campaign snippets that are infiltrating the usual cast of commercials. As usual there were the promotions, saying that certain leaders will be beneficial for Maine, and how they “won’t forget where they came from.”

These cheesy slogans and empty promises do not bother me. However, this year, There have been too many election videos expressing how one politician is causing our state to go broke, or how they would be a “bad choice for Maine.” These negative sound bites full of untruthful and unimportant “facts” bother me a great deal.

What worries and disgusts me is the fact that these politicians’ endorsements promise that they can successfully run a government, yet they cannot spend 10 seconds expressing what they will do for Maine, and instead resort to attacking other candidates. As if that isn’t enough, some public figures who are the subjects of these degrading programs have responded negatively in turn.

These grown men and woman, who deem themselves capable of leading a people, have reduced themselves to bickering like a group of first-graders having a debate over who deserves the last cookie.

Instead of releasing negative statements tearing down other candidates, why not let it be known what you will do to improve our state as our leader. If you’re going to get my vote, I don’t want to know which politician has a fancy SUV, or could be “smooth talking.” I need to know what your plan is to support the education system, preserve Maine’s natural resources, and aid unemployed Mainers.

Am I the only one concerned about this? For the sake of Maine, and our country as a whole, I certainly hope not.
