The town of Chelsea is looking for a new code enforcement officer after its former employee left last week to serve in the same role for the town of Readfield.

Gary Quintal, a West Gardiner resident who also is running for the Maine Senate District 14 seat, had been Chelsea’s code enforcement officer, plumbing inspector and health officer since 2012.

In Readfield, Quintal replaced Paul Mitnik, who left the position to focus on his other job as Manchester’s code officer, according to Readfield Town Manager Stefan Pakulski. Tuesday was Quintal’s first day without Mitnik, Pakulski said.

The Chelsea Board of Selectmen is scheduled to discuss the opening at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Chelsea Grange Hall. Waldo Gilpatrick, the previous alternate code officer, has been filling in since last week, according to Chelsea Town Manager Scott Tilton.

Tilton said the town probably will be looking to see whether any code officers in neighboring towns are interested in an additional position. Both the Readfield and Chelsea positions are 16-hours-a-week jobs.

Quintal, who made $28 an hour in Chelsea, is making $29.33 an hour in Readfield, Pakulski said.
