AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta will hold a dedication ceremony to rename its downtown building, formerly called the Gannett building, to Handley Hall after its former president, Allyson Handley, at noon Monday, Oct. 27.

Handley, who recently left UMA to take a position at National University in San Diego, will be honored at the event for her accomplishments in her six and a half years as president, including establishing the university’s downtown Augusta presence, according to a news release from the university.

Located at 331 Water St., the building houses offices and classroom studios for UMA’s Architecture and Art Programs, the offices of Women, Work, and Community, and one of the university’s art galleries.

Handley will be in attendance, along with UMA’s current president, Glenn Cummings, Augusta Town Manager Bill Bridgeo, Dick McGoldrick, who donated the building to UMA in 2010, UMA Board of Visitors Chair Janet Parkhurst, and many other members of the UMA community.

During the ceremony a plaque will be presented to Handley and a new sign will be unveiled for the building. Lunch and refreshments will be served.
