LEWISTON — Matt Cannone threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Frank Williams in overtime to lift the Bates football team past Colby 34-28 on Saturday afternoon in the first installment of the Cony-Bates-Bowdoin series.

It was the second touchdown reception for Williams, and his first was a big one, too.

Cannone hit Williams for a 3-yard score with just 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter to help the Bobcats force overtime.

Cannone completed 17 of 31 passes for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Williams finished with the two catches for 28 yards. Mark Riley had five catches for 109 yards and a touchdown as well for Bates (2-4), which never led until the end of the game.

Gabe Harrington had another big day for the Mules (1-5), completing 13 of 38 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

Nick Joseph had two receptions — both for touchdowns — for 110 yards. Luke Duncklee rushed for 11 yards on four carries.

WESLEYAN 35, BOWDOIN 0: Jesse Warren completed 19 of 30 passes for 181 yards and five touchdowns as Wesleyan rolled to the New England Small College Athletic Conference victory in Middletown, Conn.

Lou Stevens also rushed for 121 yards on 21 carries for Wesleyan (5-1), which had 417 yards of total offense.

Tyler Grant led the Polar Bears (2-4) with 52 rushing yards on 17 carries.

HUSSON 47, CASTLETON 26: John Smith rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries to carry the Eagles to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference victory in Castleton, Vt.

Husson (5-1), which had 521 yards of total offense, led just 9-6 at the end of the first quarter before pulling away with a 28-point second quarter.

Logan Steward rushed for 120 yards and a pair of scores on 17 carries for the Eagles. Joe Seccareccia completed 13 of 24 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown.

George Busharis threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns to pace Castleton (4-2).

MAINE MARITIME 62, NICHOLS 43: Former Lawrence standout Jacob Doolan rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries and also caught two balls for 63 yards and a touchdown as the Mariners rolled in Dudley, Mass.

Michael Fahey threw just nine passes for MMA (3-3), but he completed five of them for 145 yards and three scores.

James Ferrar rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Mariners as well.

Nichols dropped to 1-7.
