Among the reasons not to elect Shenna Bellows is a TV message that she approved stating “Shenna will raise the minimum wage.”
That’s remarkable. Heretofore, making laws has required more than a single member in a single chamber. A more recent ad depicts supporters suggesting that she will vote only as each of them would individually. That’s as likely as making laws alone.
Electing Bellows would replace a widely respected, powerful yet cooperative senator, one who knows all of the others and scores of their staffers — in brief — one who knows the ropes and gets things done. Bellows would join our other senator on a bottom rung of the seniority ladder.
From there, with her start at the top approach, she might challenge Harry Reid and overshadow other mature Senate veterans. Electing such a marvelous Mainer wouldn’t be fair to the other 49 states and their 98 senators.
