Waterville’s Gaunce nominated for Dealer of the Year
Charlie Gaunce, president of Central Maine Toyota in Waterville, has been nominated for the 2015 Time Dealer of the Year award.
Gaunce is one of 55 dealer nominees from across the country who will be honored at the 98th annual National Automobile Dealers Association Convention & Exposition in San Francisco in January, according to a press release from Time and Ally Financial, sponsors of the award.
“The dealers nominated for this award are dedicated business owners, auto lovers and, most importantly, champions for their local communities, with a willingness to give back on a grand scale,” said Tim Russi, director of auto finance for Ally International, in the press release..
Ally will contribute $1,000 to each nominee’s charity of choice.
Gaunce, 77, was chosen to represent the Maine Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition — one of only 55 auto dealers from 17,000 nationwide — nominated for the 46th annual award, the release said. One finalist from each of the four NADA regions will be picked, as well as one national Dealer of the Year.
Gaunce began full-time work at Central Maine Motors, his family’s business, upon graduation from the University of Maine in 1960.
Gaunce is one of the founders of the Kennebec Regional Development Authority and was vice president in 2013. He is also a past president and director of Rotary Club of Waterville, 50-year trustee and past board chairman of Inland Hospital, Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce director) for 20 years, a founding president of Waterville Main Street and is active in a number of other civic organizations.
He was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Thomas Brown, president of the Maine Automobile Dealers Association. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children and five grandchildren.
Marchildon named MPBN chief development officer
Scott Marchildon has been named the Maine Public Broadcasting Network’s chief development officer.
The network announced in a press release that Marchildon, of Bowdoinham, will begin his new position with MPBN in mid-November and will lead development and membership teams in MPBN’s Lewiston and Bangor offices.
Marchildon has been employed by the University of New England for the past 16 years, most recently as assistant vice president of institutional advancement.
“This is an individual who has demonstrated experience in helping the university achieve success in its capital campaigns with a goal of serving students,” said MPBN President and CEO Mark Vogelzang in the release. “Scott has a fundamental understanding and deep appreciation for the people of Maine and the role that MPBN has in connecting the State as an important public media source. He’ll be a great fit in growing and leading our major giving, and membership teams.”
The Maine Public Broadcasting Network is an independently owned and operated nonprofit organization with office and studio locations in Bangor, Lewiston and Portland.
Friendly’s offers free Veterans Day meal
Friendly’s restaurants will recognize veterans and active military members on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, by treating them to a free meal, the restaurant chain announced in a press release.
The Wilbraham, Mass., based restaurant has 300 locations overall, including in Augusta and Waterville.
The breakfast offering for eligible customers is the Big-Two-Do and lunch or dinner is an All American Burger, served with fries and a beverage.
Quilt artist opens Kingfield studio
Quilt artisan Jessica O’Brien has opened a studio and craft gallery next door to the Herbert Grand Hotel in Kingfield.
O’Brien’s Notions Studio will hold a grand opening from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, during Kingfield’s Friday Art Walk, according to a press release from O’Brien.
The opening will exhibit O’Brien’s work as well as feature quilts made by her grandmother, Rebecca Strickland. Additional fiber crafts including felting, knitting, crochet and embroidery by a variety of Maine artists will also be featured.
Notions Studio is not only a workspace for O’Brien, according to the press release, but she also hopes to provide a venue for other Maine fiber artists and will have rotating space available for consignment pieces.
Augusta area job fair to be held Monday
About two dozen employers will be hiring for positions in manufacturing, retail, health care, construction and customer service from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Augusta CareerCenter Monday. The CareerCenter is located at 21 Enterprise Drive in Augusta.
Participating employers include Catholic Charities, Bath Iron Works, Sequel Care of Maine, Maine-ly Elder Care, Formed Fiber Technologies, Great Falls Marketing, Maine Revenue Service, Tex Tech Industries, Cianbro, Dish Network, Providence Human Services, Woodlands Senior Living of Waterville and Hallowell, Stericycle, Integrated Sales Solutions, Sears, Arcadia Health Services, Care and Comfort, Home Care for Maine, Augusta Civic Center, Chipotle, Target, MAS Homecare of Maine, Maine Conservation Corp., Carbonite, Labor Ready, City of Lewiston Police Department, Bonney Staffing and Mount St. Joseph Residence and Rehabilitation, according to a press release from the Maine State Department of Labor.
All those participating are seeking qualified employees to fill current positions, the release said. Job seekers are encouraged to dress appropriately, bring a current resume and be prepared to interview.
The Augusta CareerCenter holds monthly jobs fairs and also offers recruitment opportunities for individual employers. The November job fair is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24.
CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O’Net software for skills assessment.
