Maine’s annual youth deer hunting day is set to begin.

Youth Deer Day is Saturday. The day is open to hunters at least 10 years old and younger than 16. Young hunters may harvest bucks statewide. Antlerless deer may be harvested only in in the 12 wildlife management districts allowing any-deer permits this year. Those districts are mostly in southern and coastal Maine.

Youth Deer Day began in 2002. Hunters must hold a valid junior hunting license and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Maine’s general firearms hunting season begins Nov. 3.
