LITCHFIELD — Simply put, the top-seeded Oak Hill field hockey team played its game Tuesday afternoon at Carrie Ricker School.

The Raiders wore down No. 4 North Yarmouth Academy 4-0 and will now play No. 3 Lisbon (15-2-0) Thursday at Scarborough High School for the Western Class C championship. The Greyhounds upset No. 2 Yarmouth 2-0 Tuesday to set up the meeting with Oak Hill (15-1-1).

“We just addressed this game by just finishing. We’ve had our passing game all year long, sometimes we’re just not executing all the time,” Oak Hill coach Betsy Gilbert said. “That’s just what we prepared for — finishing. Finishing all our plays and just really working hard in front of the goal cage.

“…There’s really no pressure on them. They just play with passion and from their hearts. You can see that out there. It’s just the way that they all connect and work together.”

Lisbon and Oak Hill have met three times this season, with the Raiders scoring 4-0 and 2-0 wins during the regular season, respectively. In their most recent meeting on Friday, Oct. 17 , however, the Greyhounds scored a 2-1 win to take the Mountain Valley Conference championship.

The Raiders were unaware of who they would face moments after downing NYA, but they said they would prepare for the contest just like they have every other game.

“We’ll just work as a team and pull it together,” Oak Hill senior Dani Samson said. “We work hard in practice and finish on the field, and that’s all we have to do is work together.”

A patient approach like the one they had Tuesday against NYA (11-5-0) would serve the Raiders well.

After topping Mountain Valley 3-0 in its opening round playoff game this past Saturday on turf at Bates College, Oak Hill took some time to adjust to playing back on grass at Carrie Ricker on Tuesday.

“Our field here, you know, it’s very bouncy and it was very slippery out there today for the girls,” Gilbert said. “They did very well adjusting to that. We just had to stay low and keep pushing as hard as they could.”

The constant pressure from the Raiders was finally rewarded with 17:38 remaining in the opening half, as Sadie Goulet was credited with a goal after a scrum in front of the cage and Kylee Veilleux picked up the assist.

A little over 10 minutes later, Samson made it a 2-0 Oak Hill advantage when she scored the first of her two goals in the game. She later added one off a nice assist from Hayley Marshall in the second half.

Samson — one of four senior captains for the Raiders along with Goulet, Marshall and Kayla Veilleux — had a strong all-around game for the Raiders outside of the goal scoring, as she was often the catalyst to Oak Hill’s attacks in transition.

“Danielle plays with her heart and soul all the time,” Gilbert said. “She is the playmaker out there on that field and she takes her role as a captain very serious. She just is aggressive and hustles after that ball all the time.”

Added Samson on the role of the captains: “We just pull the whole team together. We talk and communicate and just make the connections out there. (We) pick everybody up when we need to get fired up.”

Oak Hill also got a goal from Kylee Veilleux, assisted by her older sister, Kayla. Abby Fuller made one save in the first half and Lindsey Wright stopped five in the second half to combine for the shutout, as the Raiders ultimately held a 24-10 advantage in shots.
