AUGUSTA — The state has dropped two charges of arson and one of criminal mischief against an Augusta woman after a neuropsychologist concluded she was incompetent to face the charges and not able to be made competent.

Kayla L. Thompson, 23, was one of two women charged after they allegedly set a small fire July 28 by placing items on a cook stove. Augusta Police who responded to the report of disorderly conduct at a residential center on Mud Mill Road said staff at the home extinguished the fire without damages or injuries.

A note on the dismissal, filed in Kennebec County Superior Court by Assistant District Attorney Joelle Pratt, said Thompson is currently under guardianship with the Department of Health and Human Services and in a long-term placement.
