Are local leaders being deceptive?

I keep up with the local politics because that is what is important to my family and myself. I watch videos of the Waterville City Council through InfoWaterville online to see the meetings if I am unable to attend.

After reading a recent article in the newspaper, I was left scratching my head in disbelief. I have heard the Waterville leaders speak of Pay As You Throw and I specifically heard one of them say it does not matter if we buy the purple trash bags, just do the recycling — implying we do not need to buy the bags to keep recycling. In contradiction to this, the same councilor, on Oct. 21, said in the newspaper, “We cannot have curbside recycling without the purple Pay As You Throw,” meaning, without the $2 purple trash bags.

I am also curious how some of our local elected officials can claim that there has been zero complaints about Pay As You Throw. That is a deceptive statement, and I think it is a sign of poor leadership on their parts. I feel that it is time for a change in leadership, especially for all those who voted in Pay As You Throw. It is time we put them out with the garbage, too, and vote in officials who will be an ear for their community and a voice for them at City Hall.
