AUGUSTA — A body found Tuesday by a child on Longwood Avenue is that of a Windsor woman.

Carol Peaslee, 44, was found around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday by an 11-year-old girl. Peaslee’s identification was first released by her mother and then confirmed by Augusta Police.

Augusta Police Lt. Christopher Massey said police were still awaiting a cause of death from the state medical examiner. That examination includes toxicology reports that could take several weeks, Massey said.

Police have said the death is not believed to be suspicious.

Peaslee was found on the back lawn of a vacant house, Massey said. He said it does not appear she had been there very long.

The girl told her parents, who confirmed the discovery and called police.

Peaslee was born in Augusta in 1970 and attended Cony High School before “proudly graduating with a high school diploma from a program at the YMCA in Augusta, where her baby was cared for while she attended classes,” according to her obituary, which appears in Friday’s Kennebec Journal. She has two sons.

Longwood Avenue is in a residential neighborhood off Riverside Drive in the northeast end of the city.
