KVCAP to offer free parenting class

AUGUSTA — Kennebec Valley Community Action Program’s Family Enrichment Council will sponsor a free, 10-week parenting class from 5 to7 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 20 and 27, Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24, and March 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2015, at Southern Kennebec Child Development Corporation’s Magic Years Center, 25 Industrial Drive.

Classes will be presented by Deb Rich and Emily Buckhalter. Topics will include the philosophy and practices of nurturing; ages and stages of growth for infants and toddlers; ways to enhance positive brain development in children and teenagers; communicating with respect; building self-worth; understanding feelings; understanding and developing family morals, values and rules; praising children and their behavior; alternatives to spanking; and learning positive ways to deal with stress and anger, according to a news release.
