The conservatives are in a snit about Barack Obama and Cuba. Where were they when Richard Nixon went to China and acknowledged the existence of a billion people?
Cuba will go the route of Spain with Francisco Franco. An educated population waited out their dictator, breathed a sigh of relief when Franco died, and quietly, without fanfare or civil war, rejoined the world. The same will happen with the Castro brothers.
Cold war mentality, cowardly politicians and Cuban exiles, like Nixon’s Watergate burglars and former Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo’s old henchmen living in Miami have kept us with an absurd policy for 50 years.
The rest of the world has long dealt with Cuba. The United States will join them, thanks to Obama for finally showing some backbone and acknowledging reality.
