Maine’s 2015 ice fishing season is beginning with state officials reminding fishermen to renew their licenses and exercise caution on the ice.
State officials say many bodies of water all over the state are open for ice fishing, but not all of them are safe because of thin ice. Officials also advise that fishermen consult with the state law book about regulations governing specific bodies of water. Some bodies of water are subject to restrictions such as what kind of lures can be used.
The state Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife divides the state into seven ice fishing regions – Sebago Lakes, Central and Midcoast, Downeast, Rangeley Lakes, Moosehead, Penobscot and Aroostook. Officials say all seven are open for ice fishing.
