On the face of it, the decision by Waterville City Manager Mike Roy concerning Ann Beverage smacks of ageism. Is the city of Waterville in such dire financial shape that it needs to cut a 26-year-employee from 40 hours per week to 20 hours per week because, unbeknownst to her, she may retire in a couple of years?

To add insult to injury she will be asked to train her replacement. Whatever happened to American fair play? As a Waterville taxpayer, I believe this decision is unfair.
