Kennebec Messalonskee Trails will hold a public meeting to discuss expansion of the Messalonskee River Trail from the current end near Rice Rips Road to the Quarry Road Recreation Area.

The public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Oakland Town Hall.

KMTrails has been working to expand the Messalonskee Stream Trail, with the goal of connecting it to Quarry Road Recreation Area, according to a news release from KMTrials. Linking the two resources would open up additional opportunities for outdoors recreation for residents of Oakland, Waterville and surrounding communities, and would draw visitors to the area.

Participants at the meeting will include invited officials from Oakland, Fairfield, Waterville, landowners along the Messalonskee Stream at the current trail end to the Quarry Road Recreation Area, and other stakeholders. The goal is to discuss options for the route which would connect the trail to the recreation area. Public input is highly encouraged.

Light refreshments will be served.
