Augusta Police are working with Lincoln County law enforcement to investigate what was first reported as a kidnapping Thursday morning on Gage Street.
Lt. Christopher Massey of Augusta Police said a woman called police at 6:42 a.m. to report she and a young child had been kidnapped around 8 p.m. Wednesday from a home in Waldoboro.
Police and rescue converged on the Gage Street home from which the woman was calling and took her and the child to the Augusta Police Department.
Detectives there, as well as investigators from the Waldoboro Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, continued to interview the woman throughout much of the day Thursday in an effort to learn what happened. Massey said the investigation is ongoing, but it did not appear the woman and child had been kidnapped.
“Details at this time suggest that it did not occur,” he said.
But, Massey said, there may be other crimes involving illegal drugs that did occur.
Massey said nobody was injured in the incident and police are not searching for a suspect.
