A Carthage man faces a charge of trafficking in scheduled drugs after a state trooper stopped his vehicle Friday because of its speed and, after smelling marijuana, found a variety of illegal drugs in the car, according to state police.
John Ellis Sr., 69, was arrested on Route 142 after the trooper found an undisclosed amount of marijuana, cocaine, many assorted prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and $2,500 of suspected drug money, police said in a news release.
Troopers later searched Ellis’ residence and found and confiscated more cocaine, prescription pills and $3,900 of suspected drug money were recovered, police said.
The charge against Ellis is a class B felony. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
