A New York City man who brought teenage girls to New England for a spending spree with fake $100 bills was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Portland to serve two years in prison.
Andrew Cupidore, 21, was arrested April 21 after a police officer patrolling the Maine Mall in South Portland got a report from a store clerk that a girl had tried to spend what appeared to be counterfeit bill.

The officer found the girl, who was 16, and discovered that three other girls in the mall were doing the same thing. Police recovered $1,000 in fake currency, according to court records.
Police arrested Cupidore after finding him hiding in a mall bathroom. He has been in custody since his arrest.
Cupidore pleaded guilty before Judge D. Brock Hornby on Aug. 18 to passing counterfeit U.S. currency.
The four girls, all juveniles, were taken into custody in April and brought to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. It is unclear what happened to them afterward.
