Fire departments from several communities battled a blaze at an industrial garage in Litchfield Wednesday night, hampered by high snow and made hazardous by propane an acetyle canisters inside the garage.

The garage full of industrial equipment at 482 Richmond Road, off Route 197, was reported on fire at 4 p.m.

Fire departments from Litchfield, Monmouth, Wales, Richmond and other towns arrived to discover the structure engulfed in flames, according to Litchfield Fire Chief Stan Labbe.

Firefighters hauled lines over 100 yards from engines on the road up and unplowed driveway, where they encountered propane and acetylene canisters inside the burning building, Labbe said.

The blaze was under control by 5:30 p.m., no injuries were reported and the Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the origin, Labbe said.
