Two people are in jail charged with stealing a pizza delivery man’s car – complete with rooftop logo – early Monday while he was delivering on Congress Street.

The victim, who police would not identify, was making a delivery for Domino’s Pizza at 645 Congress St. just before 1 a.m., when he returned to find his car driving off without him.

Portland Officer Terry Fitzgerald, who was on patrol on Washington Avenue, heard the report on the radio. About an hour later, he spotted the car leaving the Cumberland Farms on Washington Avenue and pulled it over in front of 1181 Washington Ave. The silver Volkswagen Jetta was easy to spot since it had the distinctive red, white and blue Domino’s Pizza sign on the roof.

Fitzgerald charged Haben Taffere, 34, of Portland and Rachel Ryan, 22, of South Portland, with theft by unauthorized use.

Taffere, who was allegedly driving and has some criminal history, is being held at Cumberland County Jail on $1,060 bail and Ryan on $210.
