AUGUSTA — A Newcastle woman has been sentenced on drug charges after police found her asleep in a car with drug paraphernalia in plain sight in the parking lot of Best Buy on Crossing Way.

Jacqueline O. Frey, 35, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to charges of unlawful possession of heroin and unlawful possession of cocaine. She was sentenced to two years in jail, with all but 10 days suspended (to be served in the alternative sentencing program), two years of probation, $800 in fines and $280 restitution.

In the case heard in the Capital Judicial Center, Assistant District Attorney Kate Marshall said a caller told Augusta police on Oct. 4, 2014, about the car, in which two women were sleeping, saying the drugs and drug paraphernalia were in plain view. Police found used and unused syringes, including one loaded with 1.3 grams of heroin.

Marshall said Frey, who had no prior criminal record, admitted to police that the drugs were hers.
