Pittston residents at Monday’s town election re-elected Selectwoman Mary Jean Ambrose to a seat she has held since 2013.

Ambrose, a part-time teacher at Hall-Dale High School, narrowly defeated Scott F. Hess, a lawyer based in Augusta, by a 16-vote margin, 73-57.

All other races in the election Monday were uncontested.

Ambrose said before the election that she thought the town was moving in a positive direction, and she wanted to help the board continue to help the town run well.

On Saturday, Pittston residents at the Town Meetingapproved a $982,550 budget, including $32,000 for repairs to the town’s sand-and-salt shed. The budget was up about 5 percent from what voters approved last year. The only articles not approved Saturday were not needed because voters approved raising $20,000 for a new contingency fund for unplanned expenses. Voters approved the $20,000 fund instead of raising $10,500 for legal services, unemployment insurance and a septic system replacement.

Voters at the town election Monday also re-elected Marlene Colvin to the Planning Board, and the recipient of the most write-in votes for the other open seat on the board, Greg Lumbert, plans to accept the position he already was holding, Town Clerk Deb Barry said.

In the Regional School Unit 11 school board race, Michael Bechard and Penny Poolman were re-elected.

Steve Costello and Timothy Lawrence were re-elected to the Budget Committee, and the board will decide who will occupy the third open seat, Barry said. Three people tied with three write-in votes each for the position, and others received one or two votes, Barry said.

James Lothridge and Jean Myshrall were re-elected to the Personnel Committee, and Larry Ireland was re-elected as a trustee for the East Pittston Water District.
